THIS IS NOT FOR THE TIMID.
Ford part # XF1Z-13A613-BAA (don't forget the bulbs) Brakelight From
a 2000 windSTAR.
You will also need about 4 ft.of regular 12V.wire.
After looking at the part for a while and then saying a few prayers...
Put the bike on a bike stand (lift) this will help for visually straight.
1st. remove the liner
in the trunk
2nd. I used some masking
tape on the trunk. Then measured the Brake light assembly and centred
it on the trunk, (get a friend to hold the light at the back) stand
back look, measure many times. Can't stress that enough.
3rd. Mark out the cut
lines recheck measurements.
Breathe!!!!
4th. Drill a hole inside
the cut-out area big enough for a Jigsaw blade,
5th. Carefully cut along
the lines with a Jigsaw.
NOTE: its better that
the hole be too small than too big, once I cut the hole I had to trim
more to make the hole bigger. I did this a little at a time, keep
checking with the Assembly.
6th. Mark out the four
mounting studs on the masking tape.
7th. Select correct drill
size (I used the same size as the stud so the assembly would not move
around and come loose later.)
Breathe!!!!
8th. Drill holes for
the studs.
9th. Set assembly in
hole, turn each nut on slowly and tighten evenly. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN
10th. Remove back seat
and locate the wire for the brakelight. Use a wire connecter to attach
the wire and run it back into the trunk to the assembly. Use tiewraps
to keep the wire in place ( I found a hole in the bottom of the trunk
near the front)
Test, then Reassemble
The whole process took me about 2 hrs. I would be more than happy
to answer any questions about this. Or take some more pictures.
We are travelling out to Nordegg, AB., Victoria BC then down the west
coast, CA. east to TX. then north. If anybody wishes to see this on
my bike please send an e-mail and maybe I can meet you along the way.
