A Brief History of the Northern Stars

The Northern Stars was founded in August of 2000 by Randy Simmoneau and Zeke Zinn as an Association for the exchange of knowledge and information for owners and riders of the new line of Yamaha Star motorcycles. Shortly after a call went out for officers to form an executive to develop a National Association. Guy Fillatre(Webmaster, Newfoundland), Tim Kapitan(Promotion Officer, Manitoba) and Harv Craig(Membership Officer, Alberta) answered the call and the Northern Stars was on its way. This was the original 5.

Through the years others have served as Executive Officers including Martin van der Hoek, Pat Norris, Daniel Breault, Brian Platt and Peter Dawe. Presidents serving over the years were Randy Simmoneau(Aug.2000-March 2005), Martin van der Hoek(March 2005-Oct.2005) and Pat Norris Oct. 2005 – present).

With the growth of the Northern Stars there became a need to form provincial components of the National Association and a call went out to form provincial representation. The call was soon answered. Below is a list of provinces and dates they joined.

The success and growth of the Northern Stars was possible due to the passion and hard work of all the members everywhere who supported and helped to promote the Northern Stars and made the Northern Stars Association a great place to exchange knowledge and socialize with other Yamaha Star owners and riders.

The Northern Stars Motorcycle Association and its Chapters (formerly identified as the "Northern Stars of the ISRA" and "Provincial Constellations"), as the result of an overwhelming "in favor" vote by its officers, elected to disassociate with the "ISRA" and become an independent riding association in December of 2008. As the result of that decision, the 'Northern Stars Motorcycle Association" and it's "Provincial Chapters" do not represent to be, and in fact are not, an affiliate of any other riding group, club or association.

To all members a sincere thanks.

What we are all about.

The Northern Stars are a Canadian Motorcycle Association, primarily based on the Yamaha Star line of Motorcycles, with Chapters from Coast to Coast founded August 4, 2000.

"The premise behind the Northern Stars is simple. It is a vehicle for Northern Stars members to meet and socialize with each other in the “real world" beyond the limitations of the Northern Stars's backbone, the Internet.

It is a network of fellow Northern Stars members to share and exchange the wealth of information the Northern Stars is continually accumulating through the input and experiences of its members.

It is a light and a wrench on a dark, unknown road fifty, or a thousand, miles from home when a member has that rare breakdown or other need for help. And it is a web of friendship like no other, with a brotherhood of support around the globe."
